All in a novel
- Since the start of summer I have been working on a fiction novel with my friends. I worked hard on my part of the story, and I hope to finish it before senior year. This story consists of three points of view. My side of the story is from the point of Reaves, an archmage who ended up becoming an entity of the world called a warlord. My friends Gage and Cody are writing the other two storylines, and at this point no story is finished and I am the farthest behind at only 15 pages compared to the others whose stories are 400 and 500 pages. The only reason I chose to do this is because I have found writing a story as afun past time and I find it interesting. Typing is a great skill for me because my output and my quality of writing has greatly increased. I used to be a hunt and pecker. Now I use every finger and can also find small mistakes in my work.
- This year I became better friends with my friend group. Last year I kind of ended up being annoying and a little bit overwhelming for my friends, so I was considered the lower branch of my group. However this year I chilled out a bunch, so my friends enjoy hanging out with me more. I have always been that one kid who’s just there; I am annoying and frustrating. So I found myself trying to prove myself to the teacher instead. But I learned that no one likes a teacher's pet, so I found myself being friends with the teachers at Animas, but I still found a better relation with my friends. Now I hang out with them almost every day and I spend a lot of time getting to know them better. This is important for me because I am a socially awkward nerd with a strange way of speaking with people.
- This year I widened my art skills, increasing my chance to get into art school. I am a huge fan of creative art. I find that I tend to be jealous when I see my friends draw things that look better than mine, so I push myself to do better. I learned from studio art class about chiaroscuro, acrylic transfer and watercolor with pen. I found each to have a different style for me and made me want to do more in those fields.
2 Things to work on
I’m not a straight A student
- I am barely passing to almost a C in most classes. Next semester I need to be at a B+ average. I used to be an advanced student, who tended to be the teacher's pet and also pushed myself to pass every class, so when I came to high school, I had decided to change it up and try just going with it. I found that I learned more but at the same time my grades were dropping because rather than memorizing work, I was learning it instead. I find that I'm a very ADHD.
- I'm not participating entirely in every class so I would like to find inspiration in all the projects of school. I found that this semester I was very uninterested in almost every project we did. I didn't enjoy the semester and I had no inspiration to make it so I did enjoy the projects, therefore I just kind of breezed past to keep my grades up. Also I have found over the years that the only way to pass a class is to write what the teacher wants to hear, rather than what you need to write. So I hope to try to write what I need to write rather than what the teacher wants to hear. I need to write about what I have learned rather than making up facts that seem real to bring my grade up.
1 Big question
- Why do I feel that I’m a bad friend even though my friends think I'm a good one?
Other notes
- I enjoy writing what I want to write, and following a rubric makes me write what I think the teacher wants. And so that’s why I do not try to make beautiful work.
- I do not care what my grade is as long as I'm passing at the end of the year. I want to learn and not memorize. I need to stop caring so much about how I do on a test and focus more on what I know in the end. In ten yearsI won’t care what my grade was, or how my classroom behavior was. What I will care about is what I had learned.
